MAYA, a non-profit, tax exempt corporation, provides its members with a forum to encourage the study and practice of yoga. Members of MAYA include professionals who have written articles and books about yoga and who teach nationally and internationally, instructors who have studied with some of the best known teachers in the world, and students who simply want to bring peace and good health into their lives.
Different approaches to yoga abound. MAYA, non-discriminatory and ecumenical in nature, embraces any path that follows the basic tenets of yoga: non-violence, truthfulness, practice, tolerance, friendliness and compassion.
All who are interested in yoga, teachers and students alike, are invited to join us and participate in the many activities and services we make available to our members and the yoga community as a whole.
In the early 1980’s teachers and students in the Metropolitan Washington area began to gather for seminars, social events and meetings. Out of the sense of community generated in these informal settings grew the desire to enhance that experience by creating a more formal association. On January 22, 1983 a charter was adopted that set forth the philosophy of MAYA. Since that time, we have continued to grow in the number and range of states represented with MAYA members from Connecticut to California.
We have also expanded the scope of programs and services we are offering, to include scholarships and financial support to deserving individuals and organizations. We welcome your tax-deductible contributions to help us to serve in this fashion.
We go on working together for the love of Yoga.
